Hoteles Chablé is a Mexican company focusing on ultra-luxury residential and hotel architecture, always embracing nature and the environments where it develops its projects since 2003. The project where Chablé ventures for the first time into the realm of branded residences fell into our hands thanks to the trust and generosity of this great client, and it represented a huge responsibility for us.

Once we visited the site and from the initial ideas of the team, the most well-known work of Josef Albers, Homage to the Square, came to mind, which immediately became the definitive reference for the development of these luxury residences. The play of dimensions and volumes of the square, and Albers’ celebration of the design of Mayan constructions, set the tone for the initial conceptualization of the plans. We decided to use the proportions of Albers’ work to size the large palapa that functions as the main body of the residences.

A courtyard enclosed by large stone walls serves as an atrium that welcomes visitors, isolates them from the abundant surrounding vegetation, and allows them to immerse themselves in the privacy of each residence in the complex. The staircase frames the palapa and invites users to discover it. By elevating the entire house, ventilation is created which, along with water elements, cools the air to provide greater comfort in the hot Yucatecan climate. The use of natural materials from the area and solar panels were key elements in developing the project in harmony with nature.

The portico and its central courtyard draw on architectural elements from Mayan culture and the old henequen estates, functioning as distributors throughout the rest of the development. Simultaneously, the colonnade surrounds the central courtyard, providing a sequence of spaces and attracting visitors.

Limestone, chukum, tzalam, and fiorito marble form a palette of colors and materials that dialog with the abundant Mayan landscape, while giving those who inhabit the spaces a connection to the environment.

The love for Mexico, the commitment to excellence in architectural design, and the rich dialogues we had around the finishes ensured that from the beginning, this project of thirty large houses received our special attention, care, dedication, and affection. The starting point was the intention to create a completely sensory, even sensual, architecture, and the inspiration was the warm and lush territory of Yucatán. The project is an oasis of rest and exploration.
