The spectacular view of Chapultepec Castle from the 18th floor of one of the most iconic buildings in the capital’s landscape, Torre Chapultepec I—home to the Ritz Carlton hotel—provided an unparalleled setting for the design of SMPS’s offices, an international law firm.
The space had a seventy-meter-long and four-meter-high hallway as its backbone. From this, the task was to distribute the partners’ private offices, various meeting spaces, a library, the boardroom, and the waiting area.
The reception area was conceived as an imposing introduction. Two large blocks of silver travertine marble, resembling a balance—a symbol of justice—served as both the reception wall, adorned with two magnificent paintings by Manuel Felguérez, and the door to the boardroom, which offers a stunning view.
Three equidistant cores along the hallway serve as meeting and work points, generating dynamism among the various groups of associates and operational staff. The idea was to differentiate the design of the traditional legal office not only through a more open distribution that encourages collaboration but also by introducing simple, relaxed furniture and art pieces—murals and clay sculptures—that collectively enhance and soften the environment. All contemporary, colonial, and pre-Hispanic art pieces, owned by the client, stand out as visual highlights that converse with each other.
The informal furniture, thoughtfully curated interior elements, and striking red accents invite the use of work areas. Materials such as oak wood, brushed brass, and travertine marble, among others, give character and personality to the design. In the end, we assembled the different pieces of the puzzle to create a functional project—with design as the great added value—transforming the linear space into a tailored suit for the user.
